Coldenhoff wins second MXGP Grand Prix in a row!!
Glenn Coldenhoff has just won his second MXGP Grand Prix in a row. The Dutchman, riding for the Belgian Standing Construct KTM team, won the first moto in Uddevalla, Sweden, the KTM pilot finished second in the second moto and that was enough for the Grand Prix victory in Sweden! As already mentioned, the second in a row after he also won the Italian Grand Prix in Imola last week.
In the first round of the MXGP Grand Prix of Sweden we saw the returning Jeffrey Herlings take the holeshot, the Red Bull KTM pilot leading the race for a long time as if he had never really been away. But Jeffrey Herlings is also only human and after twenty minutes the Dutchman's battery ran out, which his compatriot Glenn Coldenhoff in second position could take full advantage of. Glenn Coldenhoff moved into the lead in the race and never relinquished it. He would eventually win the match ahead of Romain Febvre and Tim Gajser. Jeremy Van Horebeek finished fifth and Kevin Strijbos also finished in the top ten in ninth place. Jeffrey Herlings disappeared from the match after a slip, but without much damage.
The holeshot in the second moto went to Romain Febvre. The Frenchman, who finished second in the first moto, was immediately followed by Tim Gajser and both made it a very interesting race. On a course where overtaking seemed like a tactical joust, Tim Gajser waited until the last ten minutes of the race to initiate the final overtaking action for the lead. The Slovenian passed Romain Febvre into the lead and seemed to be heading for the Grand Prix victory... This was due to the fact that fourth-place Glenn Coldenhoff did not score enough points to keep the newly crowned world champion from winning the Grand Prix. However, as the saying goes, "one man's death is another man's bread", Glenn Coldenhoff suddenly turned his fortunes when second-place Romain Febvre made a huge blow. The Frenchman had to deal with a big 'Highsider' from his Yamaha and landed with a heavy blow on his buttock, leaving Romain Febvre in this race and possibly even for this season. Glenn Coldenhoff immediately moved up to third position and was back in a promising position. Now overtaking Pauls Jonass was enough to achieve the Grand Prix victory, something the Standing Construct KTM pilot understood well. In the last lap, Glenn Coldenhoff made a daring passing move past Pauls Jonass and ended up in second place, the place that entitled him to the Grand Prix victory! Pauls Jonass finished third and Jeffrey Herlings, who had organized his race slightly differently this time, finished fourth ahead of Jeremy Seewer. Jeremy Van Horebeek finished seventh and Kevin Strijbos again finished in ninth place.
In the Grand Prix results we found Jeremy Van Horebeek (5-7) with his two strong results in fifth place overall. Kevin Strijbos (9-9) scored 24 points, which was enough for eighth place overall. The returning Jeffrey Herlings scored a twelfth place in the final score with his fourth place in the second heat and Micha-Boy de Waal, who rode strongly in both heats with a fifteenth and fourteenth place, finished this Grand Prix in fifteenth overall.
