Preparation for Dutch Supercross Zuidbroek at full speed!
While our country is experiencing one heat wave after another and the Netherlands is sweating at work or relaxing on the beach, the organization of the International Dutch Supercross is sweating every 9e edition of this unique event.
In our eastern neighbors, the organization of the German ADAC supercross competitions is done by professionals from this large association, sister club of our ANWB, with help from the organizations of the stations in which the races take place.
The Dutch Supercross of the Motorsport North Netherlands Foundation, which originates from the MC Delfcross the motocross club from Delfzijl receives no help. Even though the women and men involved in the organization of the Dutch Supercross are all volunteers, the organization is certainly no less professional.
Pepijn de Haan en Case Lemstra are the driving forces behind this event. They are actually a kind of Chief Executive Officers, Captains of Industry, but of the Dutch Supercross. De Haan and Lemstra manage 18 working groups, whose working group leaders put together their own team and coordinate and plan the work. De Haan takes care of more of the technical part while Lemstra takes care of the drivers and sponsorship. But they are not all. They receive help from two more board members on their Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is controlled by a Supervisory Board, a group of experienced people from motorsports who prevent the drivers from making bold plans.
The organizational model of the Dutch Supercross is not out of place for any company and radiates knowledge, competence and professionalism. The main goal is clear, a large group of volunteers who sign together for a great event, the largest supercross in the Netherlands. That is the Dutch Supercross, up to 9 this yeare edition on November 1,2, 3 and XNUMX, in the Eurohal in Zuidbroek behind the well-known Hotel-Restaurant of the Van der Valk family on the A7 highway.
Strong field of participants for 9th edition!
The indoor motocross competition in the Eurohal in Zuidbroek has now also become a permanent fixture on the European Supercross calendar. The Dutch Supercross is the opening of the indoor season. After Zuidbroek the riders fly to Paris, Stuttgart, Barcelona, Turin, Geneva, just to name a few places. Zuidbroek as a village in Groningen may pale in comparison to this list. The field of participants of the Dutch Supercross Zuidbroek certainly does not do that. In recent years, Lemstra has proven to have excellent contacts in the motocross world. Zuidbroek does not pay a lot of starting fees. The top drivers are used to that. They charge tens of thousands of euros for a weekend in Paris or Geneva. But not in Zuidbroek and yet the best supercrossers from the world are at the start in Zuidbroek.
In recent years, the field of participants in the SX1 (500cc) and SX2 (250cc) classes has been particularly strong and international. How is that possible? Lemstra: “As a former rider, I have built up and maintained good contacts in the motocross scene. I speak to team managers and drivers all year round. These contacts mean that we succeed every year in attracting the best riders to Zuidbroek. We are supported in this by the teams.
Teams such as Castrol Power1 MotoBase Suzuki and Monster Energy ELF Kawasaki Team Pfeil are German teams that like to come and compete in preparation for the German indoor season, which starts a week after us in Stuttgart. The drivers are under contract with these teams. Also many regional partners such as Mulders Motoren, Pol Motors and V.d. Vegt Kawasaki and others support us by forming teams especially for the Dutch Supercross. Experience shows that teams are finally formed in the weeks shortly before the competition. But now I can already name one name. Gared “the Shankdog” Steinke is coming back to Zuidbroek and will ride for Team V.d. Sweeps Kawasaki. He made a big impression two years ago, last year he was injured, but now he is back. In addition, there are also riders - not least from America and France, countries where supercross is "hot" - who approach us asking if they can ride the Dutch Supercross.
We are extremely proud that our event is recognized by these professionals. Says something about our organization, which is only possible thanks to the many volunteers who, just like us, are crazy about the sport. Together we make this possible.”
Pepijn de Haan adds, “We work from the experience that we want to create a beautiful and, above all, fun event. We strive for quality and model ourselves on the major competitions abroad. Every year we go to look somewhere, at the beginning of this year in Herning, Denmark, where an indoor Supercross has been held for years. We like to look into the kitchens of others, try to learn from them and gain new ideas.” And there are certainly new ideas. The motocross competitions remain the most important, but in addition to the motorcycles that will fly through the Eurohal, the public can also go wild at the Flügelparty. De Haan, “We are placing a large tent at the Eurohal where the entrance will be located and with which we create a lot of extra space. This means we have more space in the hall for stands and we can accommodate more audiences. The extra space in the tent is used for artists' performances. On Friday and Saturday evenings we hold a Flügel party there. That will certainly be fun and a great party. The Millstreet Band and DJ Willem will perform on Friday. Saturday evening DJ Willem and the Utlopers”.
Dutch Supercross, a great combination of top sport, spectacle and fun. There is a lot of entertainment surrounding the competition events. Looking forward to a fun evening out.
