Luca Colombo sets the world record for motorcycling over water!
When it comes to stunts, the Italian Luca Colombo is no match. He is currently preparing to set his own speed record for “motorcycling over water” (you read that right).
Two years ago, Luca Colombo mounted his Suzuki 450 and crossed the third largest Alpine lake in Italy at an average speed of 75 km/h. It then took him just over five minutes to drive a distance of 5,5 kilometers over the water.
A miracle? For this stunt, Luca's motorcycle was equipped with a kind of ski around the front and rear wheels, together with a special rear tire with rubber fins that ensure that it can stay above water through a hydrodynamic push. But the Italian has to maintain a breakneck pace to stay on top of the water surface!
To put his record to the test again, Luca will cross the water again on Saturday, July 6. It will start in Gravedona and arrive in Dongo, about 1,9 km further. But this time the Italian daredevil has to compete against a major challenger: none other than Robbie Maddison! Their goal? Reaching a top speed of 93,3 km/h .
The dirt bike used this year will be a Honda CRF 450r, from RedMoto Desio-Milano, which is again equipped with skis and wheels with fins. For his personal safety, Luca has chosen the Kingii Wearable, the world's smallest self-inflating safety flotation device, which he can activate in the event of an emergency.
During the record attempt, Luca will be assisted by the off-shore shipyard Albatro International – Gordona (Sondrio). The entire event is supported by BEG Sagl, a Swiss construction company.
Anyone who is currently on holiday in the area can experience this record attempt live. Luca starts from Gravedona on Saturday morning at 10 am. The arrival is in Dongo. Above you can see the images of his record run in the summer of 2017, when Colombo reached a top speed of 83 km/h.
