Junior World Cup: reactions from the Belgian camp!
The first exciting day of the Junior Motocross World Championships in Arco di Trento is over. We already gathered some reactions from the Belgian drivers in the paddock!
Tyla Van De Poel (65cc, 7th in Gr. A): “In the free practice I didn't have a very good feeling and I finished 15th. Fortunately, things went better in the timed training, where I finished seventh, although I could certainly do better. I did have the impression that the B group was a little slower than ours.
My goal is to ride for a top 10 place tomorrow.”
Maxime Lucas (65cc, 5th in Gr. B): “It actually went quite well from the free practice. I was fifth in that. In the qualifying session I was first 2nd then 3rd, I dropped back to 10th for a while and eventually I set the 5th fastest time. It was good but maybe it could have been more. I want to do even better tomorrow, then I'm going for the top 5!”
Baptiste Beernaert (85cc, 8th in Gr. A): “In the free practice I had the 15th time. I was happy with that, but I was a bit stressed before the qualifications. Of course it would be a shame if I didn't get to it! I wasn't qualified until four laps before the end. Then I set a fast lap and moved up to 9th place. Due to a disqualification, I ended up in 8th place. To be honest, I don't have many expectations for tomorrow. The level is just very high, I hope for a top 25. If I'm left out, that's no big deal, but I'm looking forward to it!”
Sacha Coenen (85cc, 6th in Gr. B): “From the free practice I was already in a good rhythm and I came fifth. There were still some mistakes. The time training was a bit less because I crashed early. It seemed like something went wrong every time in a fast lap. I managed to squeeze out a fast lap and my last lap was also great, but I was hit a few corners before the finish and fell. I want to win tomorrow!”
Lucas Coenen (85cc, 13th in Gr. B): “The free practice was a bit disappointing and I didn't have a good feeling on the bike. Fortunately, qualifying went much better, but I am certainly not super satisfied. I don't really like timed training anyway. Tomorrow I'll just take my chances. As always, I ride to win.”
