Jago Geerts the vice champion in DMofMX
Monster Energy Kemea Yamaha MX2 rider Jago Geerts became vice-champion in the Dutch Masters 250cc, 2019. The Belgian teenager finished ninth (2+DNF) in the final race in Lichtenvoorde.
Geerts was unable to convert his solid starting position (he had set the third fastest time in the timed training) into a good start in the first series. Jago only entered the first corner in sixth place, but immediately tried to gain places. But that turned out to be no easy task on the flat Dutch circuit. Geerts remained calm and only made the difference at the end - when physical condition started to play a role. He passed a few more riders and finished second, behind Roan van de Moosdijk.
Geerts, who had closed within three points of championship leader Henry Jacobi after the first heat, took the holeshot in the second heat. Jago seemed well on his way to a second consecutive title in the Dutch Masters 250cc, when disaster struck. A mechanical problem forced the Belgian to retire.
“It looked so good. I had chipped away at a lot of my deficit in the first heat and immediately took the lead in heat two. I was on my way to the title when I was hampered by a mechanical problem. A great disappointment,” Geerts sighed. “Well, there's no point in whining about it. I can't change anything about it now. I am especially looking forward to the Grand Prix in the Czech Republic next weekend. A very nice course, with a very special surface where you have to drift a lot.” said the Yamaha rider
