A perfect season for Mike van Grinsven
The ninth and final match of the KNMV Quads Masters was also won by Mike van Grinsven. The Honda rider also managed to win both heats in Lichtenvoorde and thus scores a 'Perfect Season' because the Brabander wins all heats! Joe Maessen (3-2) is second in the daily rankings ahead of Richard Ruttenberg (5-4). Van Grinsen was already certain of the title, but will give it even more shine with the next victory.
From pole position, Maessen does not have the best start and the Limburger also runs into problems in the first corner. A nice catch-up race follows, which earns him third place. Van Grinsven is a size too big and wins ahead of former champion Phoelich. Maessen rides back to third place ahead of Koen Jansen and Ruttenberg who completes the top five.
In the second heat it is again Van Grinsven who starts best. Maessen starts the race in fifth place over 25 minutes and 1 lap, but he quickly works his way up to second place! It looks like there will be a great battle, but nothing could be further from the truth. After two laps, Van Grinsven is already four seconds ahead of his pursuer and that will only increase! Maessen rides a lonely race and he comes second ahead of Tur van Hoof. The Belgian has been in third place for the entire match, but it is not an easy match for him because Janssen is getting closer! This makes for a nice duel in the last ten minutes of the match. Van Hoof can hold on to third place ahead of Janssen and Job Smits. However, the result is later adjusted by the race management because a number of riders ignore the yellow flag for the fallen Phoelich! Van Hoof and Jansen are removed from the results and Smits therefore becomes third ahead of Ruttenberg and Jan Hoogendoorn.
The championship is over, who can make things difficult for Van Grinsven in the near future?
