Edvards Bidzans European champion 85cc, Cas Valk seventh
The main players of the Junior World Championship in Arco di Trento also had their say today in the second EMX85 final race. After his victory yesterday, Latvian Edvards Bidzans only needed second place to take the European title at the expense of Valerio Lata. The 85cc world champion won today but has to settle for second place in the final standings. Thanks to a 9th place in race two, Dutch champion Cas Valk eventually finished seventh in the final standings.
The talented Frenchman Maxime Grau was able to show his skills in the first part of the race, but Marchetti KTM rider Valerio Lata put things in order halfway through the race! Bidzans, yesterday's winner, also had a poor start. With Lata in his sights, the compatriot of Pauls Jonass and Matiss Karro fought his way to the front. This time Edvards could limit himself to a controlling role because Lata finished third on Saturday. Bidzans, the 65 EMX2017 champion, added a second European title to his list of achievements.
In the second half, Frenchman Prugnieres (Bud Kawasaki) fought his way back to third place, which ultimately secured him bronze. Once again Valk was the best lowlander. From far back, Sacha Coenen came back to P19, brother Lucas now finished 14th after starting in the middle of the field. Ivan Van Erp had to leave after a few laps.
