Mike van Grinsven again Dutch Champion ONK quads
Mike van Grinsven has already secured title renewal in Markelo during the ONK quads masters. On the circuit “de Herikerberg”, the native of Heesche was once again by far the strongest and won both heats. This leaves Van Grinsven with a score of 2019% for the entire 100 season. Joe Maessen took second place with two second place finishes in the heats. With this he took advantage of Ricardo Phoelich's bad luck and the battle for second and third place in the championship also seems to have been decided. Marc de Vries managed to reach the podium for the second time in a row with his third place. He thus kept Ruben van Lith behind him. Koen Jansen returned from injury and can be satisfied with his fifth place in the daily rankings.
First heat
It was Van Grinsven who immediately seized the initiative. He was followed by Maessen, Phoelich, de Vries and Van Lith. On the third lap it was Van Lith who passed de Vries and finished fourth. Van Grinsven now had a small lead over Maessen and Phoelich was already far behind. He was followed at some distance by Van Lith, De Vries and Jansen.
Phoelich suffered mechanical failure on the eighth lap and had to park his quad on the track. As a result, the battle between Van Lith, De Vries and Jansen was now for third place. De Vries fought back and passed Van Lith on the tenth lap and immediately took a lead over Van Lith and Jansen. Van Lith made a mistake four laps later and also saw Jansen pass him by. Everything happened far behind the backs of van Grinsven and Maessen. Van Grinsven continued to expand his lead lap by lap and won the heat. With this victory, Van Grinsven gained more than enough points to be able to call himself Dutch Champion again. Second place went to Joe Maessen. De Vries followed, more than one minute behind, in third place. Van Lith tried to fight back after his mistake, but Jansen held on and crossed the finish line in fourth place, a few seconds behind Van Lith, who was happy that he managed to keep Richard Ruttenberg behind him.
Second heat
Anyone who would have thought that Van Grinsven's hunger for success would be less was quickly disappointed. Once again he took the holeshot ahead of Maessen, de Vries, Jan Hoogendoorn and Valentino Roks. After the first lap it was Van Lith who passed Gijs Wentink and Roks to finish fifth. In the fourth lap van Lith also passed Hoogendoorn who had started his decline. Van Grinsven now left little doubt about his intentions and already had a five-second lead over Maessen, which he quickly increased in the following laps. De Vries now seemed to be in no man's land in third place. Tuur van Hoof had also passed Hoogendoorn and now finished fifth. Van Lith was faster than De Vries lap after lap and managed to catch up with him. Van Grinsven again won the round and kept his undefeated status during the 2019 ONK Dutch Masters Quads intact. Maessen was again “best of the rest”. Van Lith passed de Vries on the final lap to finish third. Van Hoof crossed the finish line in fifth place, well behind De Vries.
In the standings of the ONK quads masters, the cards for the podium places seem to have been shuffled. Van Grinsven has received the tie extension. Maessen increased his lead over Phoelich to 31 points and seems certain of second place. Phoelich is certain of third place and needs a miracle to make up for the gap to Maessen.
