VLM: Seronval and Aerden serve Genk surprises!
In a very hot Genk, both Inters categories were up for grabs in the hunt for championship points. And both in the Inters 500, victory for Steve Seronval, and in the Inters 250, victory for Enzo Aerden, the Horensbergdam caused new complications.
In addition to the VLM championships for Novices 500A, Novices Open B, Juniors and Nationals Open, the MC De Vrijheid and AMC Genk organization also counted for the BMB Championship. We are now on to the sixth game there too.
A remarkably meager turnout for the half and quarter liters, which made the last class in particular a sad sight with barely 12 starters. Racing Center KTM rider Steve Seronval has often shown that he knows how to use the throttle perfectly in conditions as we know them on the Horensbergdam.
After taking pole in the morning, the 'Rocket' raced convincingly to victory twice! But things got even better for Seronval. Championship leader Jens Van Meer (BeTeMo) was not having his day. In the first heat Van Meer was stranded with electronic problems. Although he rode a solid recovery, finishing second after Seronval, the reigning champion had to give up quite a few points in the standings. After six matches, the roles between Jens and Steve have been reversed again. It is now Seronval who leads the dance with 13 points ahead of Van Meer…
The battle for second place was between two experienced men: Kristof Salaets (3-3) and Mike Vanderstraeten (2-4). Birthday boy Salaets presented himself with 'silver', although his better second round was ultimately decisive. However, Mike did a great job in the standings! Thanks to his second consecutive final podium, he jumps from six to four.
The battle of the titans in the 250 between challenger Greg Smets and Jonathan 'still going strong' Banken took an interesting turn in Genk. Enzo Aerden barely had to give up on Banken in the opener. In the final sprint, the #63 of MC de Stroeckxvrienden put things in order. It seemed to run so smoothly for Brent, it went so smoothly for Enzo! Starting third, he quickly dealt with Kevin Schellens, after which Mark Boot was also killed. A nice victory that puts Aerden firmly in the saddle in third place in the championship!
Champion Banks had given Taxi Marcel Veloshop driving force Marcel an extra birthday gift in the first series, but in the second series he disappeared early from the race with mechanical problems. Still a dampener on the joy for Jonathan because today he had an excellent opportunity to make up points on Smets. He was clearly much better in Genk during the opening match of the championship when he beat Banken. Today the BeTeMo 250 leader had to settle for 5-4 daily results.
A regular Mark Boot (3-2) and Romain Delbrasinne (4-3) completed the unprecedented podium. Both fighters are also at the top of the BMB BK. However, two-time champion Boot has a comfortable lead over his young attacker.
Next weekend the VLM caravan will travel to Lommel. There, the championship will be fought for in all classes, except the Promising and Novices!
