VLM: Encores for Martens and Smets in Lommel
Okay, yesterday was a dress rehearsal, so to speak, but the results of the 7th VLM championship test were almost identical. Yentel Martens lived up to his reputation as a sand hare with two resounding victories!
In the Inters 500 title battle, reigning champion Jens Van Meer did what he had to do. After all, the fast BeTeMo rider finished convincingly second twice! And just like yesterday, Mike Vanderstraeten finished third every time.
Since the leader in the standings, Steve Seronval, held on well, he was able to limit the damage. After 7 laps, the Racing Center KTM rider is still leading the way, although his lead over Van Meer has shrunk to one meager point! Of the pursuers, veteran Sven Wouters did the best. For Lommel, Wouters was 8th, but an 11-13 score was sufficient for the CTM Motorhomes-Suzuki pilot to move up to 5th place in the standings.
250cc: Vromans and Smets divide the loot
All the good things that Dieter Vromans (photo bonven) showed yesterday in the Lommel sandbox, he confirmed today. After narrowly beating Jack Bintcliffe for pole in timed practice in the morning, he completed an almost perfect race. Vromans led from start to finish and was able to hold off Greg Smets, who started poorly!
However, in the revival there was no solution against an unleashed Smets! The son of five-time world champion Joël Smets demonstrated and not only took the overall victory, but also consolidated his leading position in the standings. After all, the big absentee in Lommel was reigning quarter-liter champion Jonathan Banken (MX Team Taxi Marcel Veloshop). Jonathan has indicated to his team that he no longer wants to drive for the championship because he has had too much bad luck in the past. Its a shame, but there is nothing to do about it…
In the battle for third place, Jordi Van Mieghem, who was also second yesterday, reached the podium again thanks to a 4-3 final score. In the standings, the MX Topshop Kawasaki rider takes over third place from Enzo Aerden!
