Rick Elzinga: moderately optimistic!
During the previous EMX250 in France, Rick Elzinga showed a fantastic first moto. He finished sixth in Saint-Jean d'Angely and finished ninth in the day standings, his strongest quarter-liter result so far. Hopefully Rick can continue that line this weekend in Russia!
This week before leaving for Russia, the SDM Corse Yamaha rider rode the bike once... And that went quite well, except for some stiffness! “I'm going to do my best, hopefully it will be a nice weekend there.”
Last Ascension Day there was a Dutch Masters of Motocross on the beautiful track in Rhenen. Rick had trained well and was preparing for the first heat. The start was good and Rick started the race around 8th place. This almost went wrong after a few rounds. At a jumping bump with a strange head on it, Rick almost fell off headfirst! More riders ran into problems and the bump was also adjusted later.
Rick remained seated but suffered a hard impact on his body. Result: his neck brace snapped and his elbow, where he has an old injury, flared up again! Rick finished the heat on adrenaline and finished in P10.
In the second moto the question was what he could do with his arm, but after the sighting lap Rick indicated that he did not have enough strength in his arm and for safety reasons he opted out of this moto. The next day Rick flew to Italy where he had a race, but there too he decided to give his arm some rest and not to ride.
The arm was treated in Italy. We hope that, in combination with the rest, it will be sufficient for the European Championships in Russia that will be held this weekend.
