Official: Jeffrey Herlings is there in Russia!
After the KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross in Rhenen, Jeffrey Herlings already hinted that he wanted to be there again in Russia. This morning KTM officially confirmed this, the 24-year-old motocross rider will be behind the starting gate this weekend during the eighth race of the FIM MXGP World Championship! Due to a foot fracture sustained in Spain, Herlings has been on the verge of recovery in recent months. By missing the first seven games, Herlings has no chance of prolonging his title, but daytime successes must still make up for his season. Last year the Red Bull-backed rider managed to win 17 of the 20 Grand Prix!
“I have just been back on the bike for three weeks and it has gone well. I'm going to Russia with a different mindset than usual. It will be the first of three races in a row and these will be important weeks in building up the racing rhythm for the rest of the season. I rode two national events and my speed was there, but I struggled with the normal things you get on the way back from injury: arm pump and race rhythm. I have no position in mind. I will do my best of course and I will be happy with something between 5-10 but we have to remain realistic. Then when we go to Latvia, which is a bit sandy, we can look and see and maybe think a little differently.”
