Julien Lieber about volatile MXGP Latvia
Julien Lieber was the only Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team representative in Kegums after Clément Desalle broke his calf/shin during the previous GP. After a fall in the first heat, Julien had to settle for 9th place in the second heat.
With a tenth place in the qualifying race on Saturday, the Belgian hoped for a top six result on Sunday after his strong performance in Russia. Unfortunately, he was involved in a crash in the first heat immediately after the start and had to restart the race 20 seconds behind. After 2 rounds he had to leave the match with a painful elbow.
After a better start in the second moto, Julien rode in eighth position for a number of laps. In the middle of the race he fell back to eleventh position, but he managed to recover well and eventually finished in ninth place. Julien is currently in eleventh place in the world championship standings.
Julien Lieber: “I've been sick this week so I knew it would be a tough weekend but when another rider hit me at the start of the first moto it got worse. We both fell and my elbow really hurt. I had no feeling in my hand but I still tried to ride a few laps before I had to leave the race. The second start was better but it was difficult to find a good rhythm and I tried to secure some precious points. I expect more in Germany where I usually have a good feeling.”
