HOT: Jorge Prado makes MXGP decision!
Eighteen-year-old Jorge Prado is one of the biggest talents in the international motocross scene. Currently, the reigning MX2 world champion reigns supreme. He leads the championship by 44 points and has won every race he has started in. At the same time as his contract extension with Red Bull KTM, Prado resolutely chooses the MXGP!
For the next four years - until 2023 - the Spanish super talent will remain in the World Championship with Red Bull KTM. Because Prado would have to leave MX2 if he becomes world champion again, speculation about his future has arisen in recent months. After all, a switch to the AMA was a fallback option. So it is now off track!
If Prado wins the world title, we will see him compete in the MXGP World Championship next year alongside Tony Cairoli and Jeffrey Herlings.
Jorge Prado: “KTM has supported me since I started riding and won my first world title on 65cc. They offer me a great opportunity in MXGP, and I can't wait for next year! I'm very happy to stay for another four years and we're both excited about it. Since joining Claudio [De Carli]'s team, I have really felt that this is my place. Claudio has a lot of experience and I'm sure we will make a good transition to the 450s. I have a great team behind me and it's hard to find a better place than where I am now. “
Claudio De Carli, Red Bull KTM MXGP team manager: “In our sport we can never take anything for granted, so it is always satisfying when a contract is extended and we can continue together. It is a sign that we are working in the right direction and the continuity with our riders shows that this group is very close. With Jorge I got another chance to help a young rider move forward. That has always been one of my priorities and I would like to thank KTM for this. Over the past two years I can only say that we have always worked with Jorge with a smile, even in difficult times. He is a fantastic boy who deserves all his success. “
Robert Jonas, VP of Offroad: “Jorge was a KTM rider from the very beginning. It is very special to see him develop so quickly and rise to the top. Claudio and Davide De Carli, Tony Cairoli and the whole team deserve all the praise for the way they guided him. They helped Jorge find that last bit that will allow him to deliver the results we knew he was capable of. Finalizing this new contract was quite easy as we both knew what we wanted and we are excited to see what our future together will bring!”
