Gasjer takes the lead in Russian GP!
Tim Gajser has left his mark on the Russian Grand Prix with his second round victory. In Orlyonok the Honda rider not only won the GP but he also takes over the lead in the title battle from Antonio Cairoli! Gajser was on the podium with Arnaud Tonus (2-2) and his compatriot Jeremy Seewer (5-3). With this Seewer manages to take his first MXGP podium! A positive weekend for Jeffrey Herlings (4-7) and Glenn Coldenhoff (8-10), who both managed to score very well. Herlings finished fourth in the overall standings and Coldenhoff managed to finish ninth. Julien Lieber (6-5) is good for sixth place. Kevin Strijbos (14-16), Jeremy Van Horebeek (16-12) and Brian Bogers (17-17) managed to score in both rounds!

The first heat is dominated by Gajser after Romain Febvre wins the FOX Holeshot Award. The Honda rider then takes over the lead and does not relinquish it. Desalle is in second place in the initial phase, but then the Kawasaki rider slides down for a moment. Tonus takes over second place and the Swiss finishes second! Febvre finishes third ahead of Herlings, who is making a strong return to the highest level. Seewer completes the fifth in this heat where a lot happens. Bobryshev falls in the initial phase and has to be attended to by the first aid team and the same thing happens to Allesandro Lupino. In the final phase there is also a heavy crash by Desalle in his pursuit of Herlings, de Waal falls hard! His teammate Julien Lieber crosses the finish line in sixth and Glenn Coldenhoff is eighth. A setback for Cairoli who only finished twelfth and thus lost the lead in the standings to Gajser! Kevin Strijbos finishes fourteenth while Jeremy Vanhorebeek (16th) and Brian Bogers (17th) also manage to get into the points.

The FOX Holeshot Award is won in the second round by COldenhoff ahead of Gajser, Jordi Tixier, Seewer and Jeremy Vanhorebeek. The Standing Constrct driver is then able to hold on to the lead, but then Gajser passes. Tonus sees this happening and he also passes Coldenhoff. Tonus smells his first MXGP victory and he attacks leader Gajser. Unfortunately, this attack does not go well and the WILVO rider comes into contact with a straw bale, causing the Swiss to fall. The lead over Seewer is now large enough so that Tonus can hold on to second place. Seewer completes the Swiss success by finishing third in the heat and the GP. Cairoli rode a strong race and managed to reasonably limit the damage by finishing fourth ahead of Lieber. Herlings finishes seventh and Coldenhoff drops back to tenth place.
Next week is the Latvian Grand Prix, the ninth race of the season will be held in Kegums.
