Febvre demonstrates in Orlyonok MXGP qualifying!
In the recently held MXGP qualifying series, Russian fans saw the Frenchman Romain Febvre demonstrate. The 2016 MXGP World Champion will find a course that is tailor-made for him in Orlyonok, Russia. The rock-hard surface is without a doubt a specialization of the Frenchman and he showed that by leading the race from start to finish!
Behind him we saw Clément Desalle in second place for a long time, but the Belgian Kawasaki pilot fell through the ice about five minutes before the end of time. This put Gautier Paulin in second position ahead of Tim Gajser, Antonio Cairoli and Clément Desalle... With a few minutes left on the clock we saw Antonio Cairoli crash hard. Clément Desalle also fell briefly. The Kawasaki pilot was able to quickly continue his way. While the Sicilian landed very hard on his back. Fortunately, the nine-time world champion was able to return to the pits under his own power, where he left the race.
On the technical and treacherous course in Russia we also saw Gautier Paulin make a small slip. As a result, Tim Gajser moved from third place to second place, but behind the authoritarian leader Romain Febvre. Gautier Paulin recovered quickly enough to cross the finish line in third place. This for Max Anstie, Jeremy Seewer and Clément Desalle.
In addition to the competition story, you are probably also wondering how Jeffrey Herlings and the other lowlanders fared?! Jeffrey Herlings started well at the front and came out of the first corners around fourth place. Unfortunately, the Dutchman suffered a crash in the first lap, which dropped him to last place. From this last spot, the four-time world champion rode to sixteenth place.
Jeffrey Herlings ended up in a train of lowlanders. Because we found Jeremy Van Horebeek in thirteenth place, ahead of Glenn Coldenhoff in fourteenth, Kevin Strijbos in fifteenth place and Jeffrey Herlings in sixteenth place. Julien Lieber finished seventeenth. Brian Bogers got off to a strong start and seemed to be on his way to a top fifteen finish in the first few laps, but a crash that sent him to last place on the fourth lap ensured that he ultimately did not get further than twenty-first place.
