EnduroGP: Mathias Van Hoof takes first day victory!
He had already reached the podium before, but on the second, again very hot day in Greece, Mathias Van Hoof scored. The Belgian Beta pilot was the most regular in the four-stroke World Cup Open class in Serres!
After his surprising MCLB podium finish at the National 500 in Galmaarden, the train seemed to have left for Van Hoof. In his second GP weekend in Portugal, at the beginning of May, he reached the podium each time, followed by three victories in a row in Epernay, Rocroi and Saint Hubert.
Things started well for Mathias in Greece on Friday. After all, he won the Supertest in the evening. A small fall the next day threw a spanner in the works. The front bend of his exhaust was bent and the radiator hose was damaged, leaving him without water and forcing him to abandon the fight.
An eager Van Hoof more than made up for the bad luck today. All day long he was the star in the Open four-stroke class and several times Bengt Laeremans' group even finished very close to enduro legend David Knight (TM – Open Senior)!
Mathias Van Hoof: “Before my first EnduroGP participation in Germany I absolutely did not know what to expect, but since Portugal it became clear that I can more than hold my own here. I am really very satisfied with my first victory in the EnduroGP World Cup Open. I have worked very hard for this, but it is fantastic to reap the rewards. Not only for myself, of course, but also for everyone who supports me in this great adventure!”
