Famous people in 2nd E-MTB race in Mettet!
After the first E-MTB competition at the B-mine site in Beringen, the second demo race took place last Sunday around the Jules Tacheny circuit of Mettet. Mountain biker Thomas Garnier won ahead of motor sportsmen Eric Delannoy and Didier Jadoelen. Team Belgium MXoN national coach Johan Bonnen was also at the start!
18 participants were at the start for a 1-hour race, including 16 riders in the up to 25 km/h category and 2 in the + 25 km/h category. Both (former) motorsports and mountain bikers had registered, including well-known names such as Eric Delannoy, Didier Jadoul, Stephane Mertens, Thierry Klutz and Johan Boonen.
The visitors of the Bikersland festival were treated to a beautiful spectacle. The win in the up to 25 km/h class went to ex-Superbiker winner Eric Delannoy ahead of Didier Jadoul and Kenny De Raymaekers. In the + 25 km/h class, Thomas Garnier won, who also won the scratch classification.
Earlier in the day, a round table conference took place in collaboration with the FIM in the presence of various national associations, organizers, FIM promoter Youthstream and the FIM to discuss the future of this new discipline. Numerous ideas, experiences and proposals were exchanged. Youthstream announced that it will launch a World Cup E-Xbike from 2020. A one-off event will take place in Imola on August 17.
The next Belgian E-MTB race will take place on August 25 in Kluisbergen, organized by Mountainbike Vlaanderen. The last competition will take place on the beach of Ostend on Sunday, October 19.
It is clear that this discipline has now really been launched. An evaluation will be made within the BMB at the end of the season and the possibilities will be studied to set up a competition in 2020.
