Strong French GP for Desalle and Lieber
Clément Desalle and Julien Lieber (Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team) rode a strong GP in France with top six results for both riders.
Belgian Clement Desalle started ninth in the first moto and quickly managed to move up to sixth place. Five minutes later he reached fifth place and set his sights on fourth place. He took over fourth place in style, but shortly afterwards made a mistake and fell back to sixth position. In the second moto he rode from sixth to third place in the first lap. Ultimately he finished fourth, which also became his position in the daily rankings. With just ten points behind the third-placed rider in the world championship standings, he is now preparing for the Russian GP where he took victory last year.
Julien Lieber chased his teammate Desalle through the first moto until a fall in the middle of the moto dropped him to ninth. The young Belgian started tenth in the second heat and eventually managed to finish sixth. He was rewarded with sixth place in the daily rankings and moved to tenth place in the world championship standings.
Clement Desalle: “I was a little disappointed with the first moto. I was in fourth place when I made a small mistake in a fast corner. I started the second moto with a sore thumb after a rock hit it in the first moto, but I had a good start and was in third position until Gajser passed me. But fourth place was a good result, even though I had just missed the podium for the third weekend in a row! I hope I can recover from my knee this week and be back on the podium soon. ”
Julien Lieber: “It was a much better day after the crash behind Paulin yesterday. My neck was sore this morning when I hit my head quite hard on the floor. It wasn't an easy day and it was a lot of pain, but I never give up. I didn't have a good gate pick yesterday after the crash, but the second start was decently in the top ten. I passed some guys and rode for a long time behind Paulin. Sixth overall in the GP is not that bad, but I know it would have been better yesterday without the crash.”
