Jeffrey Herlings: “No return date yet!”
MXGP World Champion Jeffrey Herlings is working steadily to prepare his return and thus his first GP of the season. The 24-year-old Red Bull KTM star is now completing motorcycle training again, but has indicated that it is still too early for a comeback in competition.
As is known, 'The Bullet' suffered a complex fracture to his right foot in January. Although he immediately went under the knife, the reigning world champion faced a 3-month recovery. In one fell swoop, Herlings was allowed to cross his title defense.
“I'm actually driving myself back into shape, but that takes time,” he told reporter Adam Wheeler exclusively. “Sometimes my foot is a little swollen and hurts after riding. But he is strong enough now and it is just part of the recovery. I also have to listen to what my body says. “
Jeffrey will almost certainly miss the last of the current “three-in-a-row GP series”. So it looks like he will also be sidelined this weekend in St Jean d'Angely in France. But he still has two weeks before the next trio starts with Russia, Latvia and Germany. Everything indicates that the famous #84 will again join his Red Bull KTM colleagues Tony Cairoli, Jorge Prado and Tom Vialle during this period.
“Of course I want to come back when I'm ready to race, but then it really only starts. Because I have to rebuild,” he said. “I know I'm not going to come back and win straight away. The other boys push hard and of course they have their competition rhythm. But I hope it won't last too long. “
