Febvre wins, Herlings immediately on the podium
In Rhenen, more than 3.500 people witnessed the first match of this season for Jeffrey Herlings. The Brabander managed to finish third on the Rhenen circuit during the third KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross. The victory at 'Circuit Kwintelooyen' went to Roman Febvre (3-1) ahead of Arminas Jasikonis (2-2) and Herlings (1-3). In the title fight, Jasikonis increases his leading position over Glenn Coldenhoff. The difference is now 31 points with one match left.
After his podium finish last Sunday during the French GP, Febvre is clearly looking forward to it. The Yamaha rider takes the best start ahead of Jasikonis, Pauls Jonass, Glenn Coldenhoff and Kevin Strijbos. Herlings didn't get off to a good start, but he quickly managed to work his way forward. In the second laps he passes both IceOne riders and then aims at leader Febvre. He doesn't give in easily and he can keep Herlings at a distance. After almost 15 minutes of the match, Jonass arrives. He has passed teammate Jasikonis and not much later he is able to pass Herlings and Febvre. The Latvian has a high pace, but Herlings does not lose sight of the leader. The KTM rider passes Febvre and not much later puts pressure on Jonass. Just before the VIP tent, Herlings takes over the lead to the delight of the audience. Jasikonis then tries to chase 'The Bullet', but the 24-year-old rider is not surprised and wins! Jasikonos comes second ahead of Febvre, Jonass and Kevin Strijbos, who manages to get behind Coldenhoff.
Febvre is also the best starter in the second round and the Yamaha rider takes the HGS Holeshot Award. Coldenhoff hits the starting gate and he has to give chase. Herlings starts the race just outside the top five, but he quickly gains momentum. The KTM rider manages to drive himself to the lead position, but then the man with the hammer arrives. Febvre takes back the lead while Herlings also sees Jasikonis and Jonass pass. The Husqvarna rider briefly had a duel for second place, but this went to the tall Lithuanian. Jonass comes third ahead of Herlings and Coldenhoff comes back to fifth place. Strijbos has been in fifth place for a long time, but the JWR rider falls silent, causing him to disappear from the race.
The final of the KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross will be held during the Zwarte Cross in Lichtenvoorde. The 500cc riders will be in action on Sunday, July 21!
