EnduroGP: Magain and Cambré strong in Spain!
Portugal's tough match had not even finished when 3 days later the GP circus had to start again in Santiago de Compostella, Spain. Everyone remembers last year's competition where the enduro and cross test were more like a water ballet. As if the devil was involved, it wasn't last weekend otherwise!
This year the organizers had set up the tests almost the same. However, this time they were not very lucky and everything was under water again. Still, Husqvarna rider Jilani Cambré did excellent in his World Championship debut. Just like colleague and friend Mathias Van Hoof, Cambré started in the World Cup Open class. On both Saturday and Sunday he finished in 2nd place in the open 4s class.
In the EnduroGP class, Briton Bradley Freeman had a fantastic weekend. The Beta-boano pilot won the EnduroGP class (all 3 categories combined) and the E1 class on both Saturday. On Saturday it was a British get-together on stage. Steve Holcombe came second and Daniel McCanney confirmed again with third place. On Sunday it was slightly different. Freeman was once again the winner. McCanney finished second and Giacomo Redondi scored his first podium place in the EnduroGP class. Holcombe has been struggling with his health for several weeks and had a much more difficult time on day 2 and only finished sixth.
In the Junior category, the Italian TM pilot Verona won for the 6th time in a row this year. The little Brit Jack Edmondson also scored a podium spot on both days. On Saturday the Spaniard Fransico and on Sunday the Frenchman Espinass. Antoine Magain (photo above) did excellently with a 7th and 8th place in the scratch and a 4th and 5th in his class.
Matthew Vanoevelen had a difficult weekend. On Saturday he only finished 14th and on Sunday he dropped out with a technical problem. The situation of the Spanish motorcycle manufacturer certainly does not help its results. Matthew was completely dependent on himself in both Portugal and Spain and these 2 GPs were contested with his own van. We hope that the Gas Gas factory pilot will receive the support he deserves in the next GPs.
