De Wolf wins Rhenen, title battle completely open!
On the eve of the third race of the KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross, it was announced that Kjell Verbruggen regained the first moto victory in Oss. The Boxtel native had lost this after a penalty from the race management, but this has now been revoked. This meant that Verbruggen took action with the 'Redplate' during the race at the Rhenen circuit. Verbruggen won the first round, but with a third place in the second round, Kay de Wolf (2-1) became the winner of the day. In addition to De Wolf and Verbruggen, Kay Karssemakers (3-5) can climb onto the podium.
It is Liam Everts who takes the HGS Holeshot Award during the first round of the 125cc. The 14-year-old rider is followed by Verbruggen who quickly takes the lead. The Husqvarna rider immediately builds up a lead while Everts manages to hold on to second place for almost five minutes. Then De Wolf passes by and he looks for a connection with leader Verbruggen. The difference is more than five seconds, but no matter what the JM Racing driver tries, he cannot find the connection. Adam Zsolt Kovacs managed to stay in De Wolf's wake for the first half of the race, but the Hungarian unfortunately dropped out with engine trouble. Initially, Dave Kooiker takes over third place, but Karssemakers immediately goes on the attack and with success! The Diga driver comes third ahead of Everts and Kooiker. In the second round Hakon Osterhagen is the best starter, the Norwegian takes the HGS Holeshot Award ahead of Everts and De Wolf. Not a good start for Verbruggen, who starts the race sixth and ends the first round in fourth. Zsolt Kovacs is in a hurry because he rushes forward and looks for De Wolf's rear wheel. This rider from Eersel manages to take over the lead and the Hungarian follows like a shadow. Verbruggen cannot connect and he rides a lonely race behind the duo. De Wolf is in the lead, but he does not get much freedom from Zsolt Kovacs. Whatever the JK Racing driver tries to take over the lead is not possible. De Wolf wins and he therefore makes up points in the title battle. Zsolt Kovacs comes second ahead of Verbruggen. Fourth place goes to South African Camden McLellan and Karssemakers manages to take fifth place in the final phase at the expense of Kooiker.
The final of the KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross will be held during the Zwarte Cross in Lichtenvoorde. The 125cc riders will be in action on Friday, July 19! Verbruggen travels to circuit 'De Schans' with an eleven-point lead.
