Cairoli wins the MXGP mud ballet of Mantova!
This weekend the second Italian Grand Prix in a row was held in Mantova. The Lombardy Grand Prix on the Mantua circuit turned into a real mud ballet on Sunday.
Something that again became a favorite of Antonio Cairoli. The Sicilian Italian once again clearly emphasized the immaturity of all his competitors! With a double series victory and due to a lot of stumbling from his first pursuer in the world championship Tim Gajser, the Di Carli KTM pilot leads the Slovenian by up to 40 points!
The Slovenian was not eligible for the overall podium at any point during the competition. Those places next to Antonio Cairoli were taken by Pauls Jonass who claimed his first MXGP podium and Gautier Paulin.
The Lowlanders met with varying degrees of success. Clément Desalle finished fifth and seventh in the heats, good for fourth overall, solid damage control after having meniscus surgery a few weeks ago. Glenn Coldenhoff clearly also felt good in the slightly slower and tougher conditions, finishing eighth and fifth in the overall standings just behind Clément Desalle. The Dutch Brian Bogers managed to make himself noticed again after a long time, in the first heat he only scored one point, but in the second heat the HSF HRC Honda pilot finished a good second! Both results combined resulted in an impressive ninth place overall for the man from Eindhoven. This also underlines how important a good start is in the current MXGP field and that Brian Bogers should certainly not be written off after all his injuries. Kevin Strijbos, who returned from injury, collected fifteen points by crossing the finish line once thirteenth and once fourteenth! Sven Van der Mierden had one of his better Grand Prix races, he finished the race in Mantova with eight points earned with two seventeenth places. His teammate Micha-Boy De Waal unfortunately had a lesser Grand Prix and returns to the Netherlands without points. (text continues after Instagram post)

And what about Julien Lieber and Jeremy Van Horebeek? Both Belgians had a disastrous weekend. The German-speaking Belgian, employed by Kawasaki, did not get further than seven points. For Jeremy Van Horebeek, Mantova seemed to arrive a little too early after his shoulder operation. In the first moto the SR Honda Motoblouz by Hexis Energy pilot scored no points after a crash and in the second moto he did not get further than sixteenth. We hope for better results for both next weekend in Agueda during the Portuguese Grand Prix!
