BK/VLM Lummen: Van Meer wins
The fourth combined VLM/BMB competition took place in Lummen today. Reigning Inters 500 VLM champion Jens Van Meer did an excellent job. A 1-2 day score gave the BeTeMo leader a bonus of 7 points in the championship over challenger Steve Seronval!
Fun MX, led by Tony Geysels, did the honors for the fifth round at the VLM Inters and the sixth round in the BK motocross and of course also for the usual JMS program. In addition to the Inters, championship classes for Beloften, Novices 250, Novices 500 A and sidecars were also on the program.
As usual, Fun MX had again worked hard on the Kwezelstraat. Course builder Erwin Dewit presented a nice route. Due to the heavy rain and thunder in the afternoon, Lummen became a two-part race! Van Meer showed a strong performance in the dry opener of the half-litres. Jens converted from nine to one and beat pole sitter Seronval. Kevin Van Geldorp (photo below) finished third. In the heavy mud of the second series, Bryan Engelen proved to be the most handy. Engelen won ahead of Van Meer, Vanderstraeten and Seronval.
The unlucky player of the day was Roy Sillien (MC De Buiting). The number three in the championship went down hard in training. Roy reportedly suffered a hip injury. In any case, we wish him a speedy recovery.
Double hit Jonathan Banks
Ex-Belgian MX2 champion Jonathan Banken has long been the man to beat in the lightest VLM Inter class. The Taxi Marcel-Veloshop-WMX rider proved why once again today. Greg Smets, leader in the Inters 250 standings, was able to keep pace with Banken, but was unable to close the gap of a few seconds!
Banken was also the fastest in the mud festival of the closing series. Dieter Vromans, back on his way to his best form, confirmed with an impressive second place. BMB champion Mark Boot had to settle for sixth place in the first heat due to mechanical problems. In the revival, Boot now finished third ahead of Greg Smets. Smets, who missed his start, never got into his rhythm. Although he lost points to rival Banken, Greg retains his leading position, albeit only with a minimal lead!
