Tim Gajser breathes new life into the title fight with a win in St-Jean!
Tim Gajser has revived the title fight with a double series victory on the beautiful French circuit of Saint-Jean d'Angely. In the first moto Antonio Cairoli was able to limit the damage by finishing in second place, but in the second moto things went very wrong for the nine-time world champion. A crash and a few mistakes cost him expensive points, as the Sicilian did not get further than seventeenth place. In the World Cup standings, Antonio Cairoli is now only ten points ahead of Tim Gajser.
With two series victories, the Grand Prix was of course a challenge for Tim Gajser. A strong performing Arnaud Tonus, who finished third twice, was the second man on the overall podium. With a fifth and a second place, Romain Febvre scored enough to stand third on the podium in his home Grand-Prix.
Most lowlanders had a solid weekend. Clément Desalle (6-4) finished fourth overall, two places better than Julien Lieber (9-6) who finished sixth in the Grand Prix results. Glenn Coldenhoff (11-7) is again in eighth place in the Grand Prix result. Jeremy Van Horebeek had scored enough points with his thirteenth and ninth place to be classified eleventh in the same result. Kevin Strijbos scored 14 points with an eighteenth and tenth place, putting him in fourteenth overall. Brian Bogers scored six points this weekend by finishing fifteenth once. These six points brought him nineteenth place overall and Micha-Boy de Waal (29-31) did not score any points in France.
