VLM/BMB Haacht: Van Meer wins
MC Cauberg hosted the VLM championship trials in Haacht the Promises, Newbies 250cc, Inters 250cc/500cc and the Sidecars. Jens Van Meer and Steve Seronval each won one race, but a win in the second round gave Van Meer the overall victory.
In addition to the program with VLM trials, Haacht was also the place to be for the third race of the BK Motocross. Jilani Cambré convincingly took pole in the half-litres in the morning ahead of Jens Van Meer and Roy Sillien. Veteran Jonathan Banken did the same in the quarter liters, although the difference was much smaller here with Greg Smets following at 0,174 seconds.
No Cedric Grobben, nor Dietger Damiaens or Yentel Martens at the Inters 500 due to foreign commitments. Unlucky Wouter van Massenhoven, who had started the season strongly, is also still in need. The first holeshot on the Kasteeldreef went to Roy Sillien, but he quickly made a mistake when he was in the lead! Steve - back from being away - Seronval immediately pulled ahead and took command. Jens Van Meer, who had started in the top 5, came up but still had to admit his superiority in Seronval. Sillien recovered well and finished third ahead of Cambré and Janssens.
Multiple MX2 (or 250, whichever you prefer!) Inters champion Jonathan Banken once again performed out of category. Third overall he dominated in the light class and won by 8 seconds over Mark Boot, Greg Smets came third.
Sillien's holeshot and Seronval taking over the lead were very déjà vu. However, a full remake was prevented by an impressive Jens Van Meer! The reigning VLM champion had a poor start but cut through the race like a knife through butter. From eighth place, Jens had already risen to fourth place after two laps. Subsequently, Cambré, Sillien and Seronval also faced the axe. The BeTeMo rider was clearly the fastest, he also set the fastest lap of the race and crossed the line 14,2 seconds ahead of 'Rocket'. Sillien was a logical third, although endurist Jilani Cambré (4-4) showed that his MX skills are still showing signs of wear and tear!
Banken was also supreme in the second 250 moto. The Taxi Marcel-Veloshop driver seemed to be heading for a double, until a technical problem a few laps from the end decided otherwise. Greg Smets, second until then, was on his toes and finished the job ahead of Mark Boot and Dieter Vromans. A disappointed Jonathan Banken had to settle for fourth place. Smets has also done well in the championship standings. After all, he now leads by two points over Banken!
The championship will continue in Olmen in two weeks.
