Video summary: FFM 24MX Elite in Romagné
This weekend the second round of the French championship was held in Romagné, France. With a very strong field of participants in the 125cc, MX2 and MX1 class in which we saw Zach Pichon participate on a 450 Honda.
In the 125cc class we saw Official Yamaha pilot Florian Miot win, with two series victories. A nice boost for the young man, after his serious crash in the EMX125 in Valkenswaard. He stayed ahead of Xavier Cazal in both heats and in the day he managed to stay ahead of both youngsters Saad Soulimani who managed to score a third and fourth place. You can consult the full results on this link.
In the quarter liters as we used to call it so nicely, that name should come back immediately, we saw Pierre Goupillon take the victory everywhere. The Frenchman on Honda managed to win the first round in Romagné ahead of Yamaha youth product Thibault Benistant and the old faithful Valentin Teillet. In the second heat Pierre Goupillon had to settle for second place. In this second series, Mathys Boisramé managed to put things right by winning after his DNF in series one. both stayed ahead of Stephen Rubini in this second heat, who crossed the line in third. So you heard it right, the 24MX Elite MX2 championship contains many well-known names and they are going fast! This was also experienced by World Championship MX2 pilots Mitchell Evans and the Belgian Brent van Doninck. Unfortunately, both gentlemen finished one heat, but in the heat in which they did finish, Mitchell Evans did not get further than seventh place. Brent van Doninck did one place better in the series he managed to finish with sixth place... The American Mitchell Harrison, who arrived just ahead of Bud Kawasaki, continued his adjustment period steadily with a fifth and ninth place.
So the overall went to Pierre Goupillon for Brian Strubhart-Moreau and Valentin Teillet. Mitchell Harrison finished sixth overall ahead of Mathys Boisramé. In ninth place we found Tom Guyon again. The Frenchman, who is aiming for the title in the EMX125, is already gaining some experience in the MX2 class in his national championship and with more than decent results. Brent van Doninck finished fourteenth overall, Mitchell Evans sixteenth. You can get the full results click, view here.
In the 450cc class or the MX1 we saw Zach Pichon start. The young man managed to get a great start both times, but this did not result in excellent results. The excellent results were for the in-form team, the Motoblouz SR Honda team that competes in the French championship with former Grand Prix pilot Maxime Desprey. The man with Hexis Energy Drink on his cap managed to win both heats, one time ahead of Milko Potisek and the other time ahead of Nicolas Aubin. However, both were too irregular to claim second place in the overall standings. This went to Greg Aranda with two third places. Third place overall ultimately went to Milko Potisek, who with a second and fourth place scored the same number of points as Greg Aranda. Nico Aubin (9-2) and Jimmy Clochet (4-5) rounded out the overall top five. You can also view the full results of the competition in Romagne view here.
After this second round of the seven-race championship we see that Florian Miot is in the lead in the 125cc championship, with a lead of 20 points over Saad Soulimani. In MX2, the 'Red Plate' after two rounds of the championship is in the hands of Pierre Goupillon, he only has four points more than Stephen Rubini. The MX1 class is a neck and neck race between Maxime Desprey, the championship leader, and Greg Aranda who has the same number of points as Maxime Desprey. Both count 82 points and that is only three more than the third dog in the game Nicolas Aubin! Milko Potisek in fourth place is also only eleven points behind the duo!
