Yet again Cooper Webb in SX New Jersey!
After a competition-less weekend, the SX riders returned to action in New Jersey for the 16th round of the Monster Energy Supercross Championship. Although an ill Cooper Webb was put under pressure in the penultimate race of the season, the championship leader still took the victory!
Before the showdown at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, Webb was 18 points ahead of Eli Tomac and 23 points ahead of Marvin Musquin, respectively. Both Tomac, who won the previous match in Denver, and Musquin fought to maintain their theoretical chance of the title. See here the highlights of the final!
Strong 450 rookie Zach Osborne and Cooper Webb animated the first half of the race but Tomac smelled his opportunity. The Kawasaki factory rider took control of Webb after a duel but crashed in the whoops. This initiated a tumultuous ending. Osborne was also supposed to lead, but the ex GP rider in turn crashed. Meanwhile, Tomac came back, until a second crash completely ruined him. This is how Webb earned his seventh victory of the season! With only the Las Vegas final remaining, Cooper Webb needs just three points to secure his first 450 title.
