Mike van Grinsven maintains a 100% score
Mike van Grinsven has won the fourth competition of the KNMV ONK Quads Masters in Lommel, Belgium. Van Grinsven was the strongest in both heats in a duel with Joe Maessen. With the full score of 50 points, Van Grinsven maintains a score of 100%. Maessen took second place in the daily rankings with two runners-up. He collected enough points to take over second place in the standings of the ONK Quads Masters 2019 from Ricardo Phoelich. Third place went to Jan Vlaeymans. The Belgian entered the podium for the first time this season. For Ricardo Phoelich the grapes were sour. The Wijchen native got stuck in the fence of the track on the last lap of the first heat and wasted expensive points. Nick van Hout had a good day with a fifth and seventh place in the heats and finished fifth in the overall standings.
First heat
Van Grinsven came out on top at the start, with Jan Hoogendoorn, Maessen, de Vries and Phoelich behind him. In the first lap, Maessen immediately passed Hoogendoorn and joined van Grinsven. It was de Vries who took over third place from Hoogendoorn in the second round, who was followed by Phoelich and van Hout. There was a traffic jam in the chasing group. This created a gap with the pursuers. In the meantime, Van Grinsven and Maessen fought their battle at the front and were already running away from the competition. Phoelich passed Hoogendoorn and a little later also passed De Vries. Vlaeymans recovered in the chasing group and also passed Hoogendoorn. Two laps later, Van Hout also fell victim to Vlaeymans' urge to act and finished fifth. This seemed to take the positions for the first heat. However, Vlaeymans overtook de Vries and passed him. However, De Vries did not let this pass and passed Vlaeymans again. Van Grinsven, Maessen had now built up a lead over Phoelich. Maessen stayed with him for a long time until halfway through the heat, but slowly but surely had to open a gap and once again concede his superiority to van Grinsven. Phoelich seemed to be heading for third place but got stuck in the track fence on the last lap. De Vries, Vlaeymans and van Hout, among others, benefited from this and completed the top five in the heat results.
Second heat
Once again it was Grinsven's with the hole shot. He was followed by Hoogendoorn, Phoelich van Lith and Maessen. Maessen took second place on the first lap and again joined van Grinsven. Hoogendoorn quickly fell back and it was Van Hout who finished fifth. Halfway through the heat, Maessen slowly but surely had to let go of Grinsven. Once again it was Vlaeymans who returned to the top five. He passed Hoogendoorn and van Hout. A little later, Van Lith also had to suffer. Van Grisven again won the heat ahead of Maessen. Phoelich now took third place, well behind. Vlaeymans and van Lith completed the top five.
In the standings of the ONK Quads Masters, Van Grinsven has a wide lead of 43 points. Maessen takes over second place from Phoelich, after which the chasing group is now also far behind. Job Smits suffered a DNF in the first round and, like the absent Rick Haverdil, now falls outside the top 10. Jan Vlaeymans and Nick van Hout are the new names in the first 10.
