Gajser gives Cairoli a mental blow on home soil!
In the Italian Arco Di Trento, those present got their money's worth! In both heats Antonio Cairoli and Tim Gajser fought each other with a knife between their teeth. A prestige blow and for Tim Gajser it was also an opportunity to deal a mental blow to the Sicilian Italian in order to enter the month of rest with some momentum. Momentum that should allow him to close the gap in the championship in the races in Mantova, Agueda, Saint-Jean d'Angely, etc.
But did the two-time world champion manage to shake the nine-time world champion on his HRC machine in Arco-Di-Trento, Italy? Certainly in the qualifying series and the Slovenian succeeded again in the first heat! We had a very exciting match in which Antonio Cairoli managed to take the holeshot. However, he got Tim Gajser on the wheel like a shadow. The Italian followed this closely until he saw his opportunity a few laps from the end and went on the attack. Tim Gajser in turn repelled Antonio Cairoli's attacks and won the first heat ahead of Antonio Cairoli and Gautier Paulin!
In the second moto Tim Gajser took the holeshot with Antonio Cairoli right behind him. Both made it a nice viewing piece again. Just past the halfway point of the race, Antonio Cairoli managed to take the lead. The Italian clearly had the slightly better lines of both at that moment. However, his competitor Tim Gajser did not panic and studied the lines of Antonio Cairoli and then passed the Italian again... However, the HRC HSF pilot was not yet rid of the old tough Italian because he came back again, but he clearly had to cross the limit of his abilities and after a few mistakes, the next mistake was mercilessly punished with a fall. This gave Tim Gajser free rein in the last laps and he was able to drive to his second moto victory and the Grand Prix victory! This again for Antonio Cairoli who managed to finish second and Gautier Paulin.
The difference between championship leader Antonio Cairoli and second in the standings Tim Gajser is now 16 points!
The lowlanders had an up and down weekend in beautiful Trentino. Among the Belgians we saw Jeremy Van Horebeek finish tenth in the first moto, and in the second moto the Motoblouz SR Honda finished outside the points in twenty-seventh place. For Clément Desalle the weekend was perhaps even more dramatic. In the first moto, De Waal, employed by Kawasaki, was able to score a twelfth place, but in the second moto he did not complete a single lap. Julien Lieber consistently finished thirteenth once and twelfth once.
The Dutch had more reasons to be happy with Glenn Coldenhoff, who finished fourteenth in the first moto and seventh in the second moto. The same with Brian Bogers who, after a disappointing nineteenth place in the first moto, finished ninth in the second moto.
