De Wolf wins a match full of excitement and sensation
We will remember the first race of the KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross 125cc for a long time! The first round was dominated by a tough battle between Kay de Wolf and Kjell Verbruggen. The rider from Boxtel won, but the race management intervened and that gave De Wolf the victory. The second heat was not held after a deliberate false start. So De Wolf wins the first match of this championship and takes the 'Redplate'.
De Wolf gets off to a very good start in the first round and wins the HGS Holeshot Award by Kay Karssemakers and Adam Zsolt Kovacs. In the first corner things go wrong for Rob van de Veerdonk and Ryan Mahwinney, these gentlemen have to give chase. De Wolf takes distance while Verbruggen needs some time to work his way up to second place. After 20 minutes of racing, the rider from Boxtel manages to close the gap and is getting closer to the leader! The tension increases and when stragglers enter the picture, the water starts to boil! It has to happen in the last round and De Wolf chooses a broader line, causing Verbruggen to go on the attack. The two riders hit each other and Verbruggen wins while De Wolf falls to the ground. Later, Verbruggen is penalized three places because his starting number on his shirt is not the same as on his motorcycle. De Wolf wins the first round ahead of Kooiker, Zsolt Kovacs and Verbruggen. Later, the competition management decides to disqualify Verbruggen for unsportsmanlike behavior!
Because the starting gate continues to refuse service, the second heat is started with a flag. However, this is not a success with the young dogs, so it is decided that a second round will not be held for this class!
The championship will continue in three weeks, when the points will be distributed in Axel, Zeeland. This competition is a one-day event and will be held on May 5.
