Brian Bogers: toiling in the shadows!
Brian Bogers was sidelined for almost an entire season. This makes the Eindhoven resident an MXGP rookie in practice. However, BB189 must master the '450 box' as quickly as possible. Under the spotlight of the great HRC-Honda factory team and in the shadow of two-time world champion Tim Gajser!
In the World Cup standings we find Bogers 19th. In itself unflattering, although a second reading provides the necessary nuance. The British GP was an off-day in which Brian scored no points. Argentina was the first Grand Prix in which the ex-European 85cc champion immediately collected a handful of points.
However, anyone who saw the last two GPs knows that Bogers' top-15 goal is very realistic. On a difficult track in Arco di Trento, he achieved his best result of the season - ninth place - in the second moto. “The first few laps I was inside the top 10 and I held on to that. With this I have proven that it is also my place if I can compete with those riders. In that respect, the Trentino GP was certainly a step in the right direction.”
In the strong opening race of the Dutch Masters of Motocross in Oss, Brian finished sixth. He also stuck his nose to the window in Valkenswaard during the Dutch GP. “Although I started to feel a bit cramped in the sight of the top 10, I finished 12th in the first heat in Valkenswaard. I was very happy with that, it was nice to see my hard work starting to pay off. Unfortunately I couldn't finish the second race after my bike was damaged after being hit at the start.” In terms of driving, Valkenswaard was a big step forward.
A bit of bad luck, bad starts, for the time being the pieces of the puzzle have not yet come together for the Honda factory rider in two series. In any case, there is still a lot of work to be done, although Bogers realizes this better than anyone. “Those zero scores are indeed a shame, otherwise things would look very different. But that is also motocross, you have to put a bad weekend behind you as quickly as possible. I know I have to keep working hard and that is what I am doing now.”
The next Grand Prix will take place on May 11 and 12 in sandy Mantova. A track that suits the Honda factory rider because he already reached the podium there three years ago. At the time, the HSF rider came second… after a certain Jeffrey Herlings. This year Brian will be looking for his best annual performance in Lombardy. We think it should work! But first there is the Dutch Masters of Motocross in Axel, which is already next weekend.
