Leferink/Veldman win the National Championship sidecars in Lommel
Tim Leferink and Sam Veldman managed to win the NK class in the supporting program of the Denicol Sidecars GP of Belgium in Lommel. Just like brother Julian did in the GP, Sam Veldman took the win in the first heat with rider Tim Leferink. A second place in the second heat was more than enough for the day's victory. On the second podium scaffold we saw Boeve/Sellis who, with two third places in the heats, eventually finished 2nd in the day's results. Stalman/Maas came third for the award ceremony with a second and sixth place in the heats.
1st heat
About 29 NK participants raced away for the first heat in which Hurkmans/Van Leuken resolutely took the lead at the start.
Stalman/Maas, Vaerenberg/Roes, Vos/Hoesen and Leferink/Veldman were also at the front.
Rene Stalman and Nick Maas already managed to outwit Hurkmans in the first lap, but he did not let this happen and regained the lead a little further on.
In the meantime, Leferink/Veldman had already climbed some places and were steaming towards the fighting leaders when they reached third place and had the space to pick up the pace.
At that moment it seemed that Hurkmans was starting to move slightly away from the rest, while Leferink had also passed Stalman and did not want to widen the gap to Hurkmans.
We quickly lost another contender for the medal.
The Jawa of Tjoelker/Nijenhuis did not feel like it there in Lommel, and with a broken ignition, sidecar team Friesland had to be pulled over. Unfortunately, this problem could not be remedied and they were relegated to spectators for the rest of the day.
Meanwhile, Wijers/Van der Putten were at 4, Vaerenberg/Roes at 5 and Boeve/Sellis at 6.
In the 4th lap we suddenly saw Leferink/Veldman in the lead and we lost Hurkmans/Van Leuken.
Hurkmans blew up his engine and had to leave without a score, just like in Varsseveld. The damage later turned out to be so extensive that it was no longer possible to start in the 2nd heat.
So a lot of things happened at the front again, so they didn't actually notice that Stephan Wijers and Siebe van der Putten had sneaked their way forward and were suddenly behind the leaders Leferink/Veldman.
However, Weijers/Van der Putten crashed and were unable to get the machine running again. The bucket bracket was also torn due to this crash and so further driving was no longer an option.
Leferink/Veldman were safely in first place again and without pressure from behind they would also cross the finish line. Stalman/Maas took advantage of the gift from Weijers/Van der Putten and climbed back to second place, which they would hold at the finish.
Jeroen Boeve and Rick Sellis had also worked their way to the front and rode to 3rd place at the expense of Vaerenberg/Roes.
Initially, Koen and Rik Grondman were at 4th, but in the very last lap they got stuck while doubling another participant and fell all the way back to fifteenth place.
Grondman's fourth place was now taken over by Bram van Dijk and Loet van der Putten, who were able to deal with the Rouwenhorst brothers in the final phase, who would finish fifth. The well-started Vaerenberg/Roes managed to finish sixth.
2st heat
When the starting gate fell, Vaernberg/Roes sped away the fastest, but Leferink was just a little earlier at the first corner and dived on the inside and then came out as the leader.
Van Dijk/Van der Putten advanced to 2, Boeve/Sellis to 3 and Wijers/Van der Putten to 4.
Bjorn Ribbers and Celine Peddemors also quickly passed Vaerenberg/Roes and were neatly in fifth place.
Leferink was in the lead when suddenly both Wijers and Boeve/Sellis had relegated the sidecar of Van Dijk/Van der Putten to fourth place.
Both Boeve and Wijers quickly caught up with the leaders at the time, and Wijers/Van der Putten in particular started to push hard at the young leading trio.
Not much later, Weiers/Van der Putten managed to take over the lead and Leferink/Veldman seemed to settle for 2nd place, knowing that this would result in the final victory.
The pressure from behind had also disappeared for Leferink/Veldman as Boeve/Sellis also dropped the pace slightly and they lost sight of Leferink/Veldman.
The roles would remain that way with Weijers/Van der Putten who deservedly took the heat victory ahead of Leferink/Veldman in second and Boeve/Sellis in third. With this result, Leferink/Veldman could take the podium as the day's victors and they took Boeve/Sellis as runner-up.
Van Dijk/Van der Putten finished fourth in the second heat, 15 seconds apart.
The tension was around fifth place, which until the last lap was still in the hands of Ribbers/Peddemors, who, however, had Grondman breathing down their neck.
Bjorn Ribbers and Celine Peddemors suffered a broken spring in the last lap and were suddenly stuck in one of the deep holes. Since Grondman was chasing right behind Ribbers in fifth place, he had nowhere to go and was also stuck in a deep rut.
Ribbers/Pedemors ended very badly in the last round. Grondman ultimately decided to finish the last round.
However, they crossed the finish line so far behind the leaders that they were no longer qualified.
Wilfred Vos and Moreno Hoesen appreciated the great opportunity they were given. Due to the bad luck of Ribbers and Grondman, they managed to gain 2 places in the last round, and thus finished fifth.
The Rouwenhorst brothers also experienced something in the last round, and fell back to 11th place, causing Stalman/Maas to suddenly come in at 6th.
This 6th place was just enough to displace Bram van Dijk and Loet van der Putten from 3rd place in the final results.
The next NK sidecar round will be held on Saturday, April 20 during the GP Sidecar Cross of the Netherlands in Oldebroek.
