Victory Boeve/Sellis, Leferink/Veldman new leaders
Jeroen Boeve/Rick Sellis (photo) won the third competition of the National Sidecar Championships. The duo won the first round in Varsseveld and with a ninth place in the second round, enough points were achieved to be crowned winners of the day. Second place went to Kevin van Vaerenberg(Bel)/Björn Roest with a sixth and second place in the heats. The last place on the podium went to Bram van Dijk/Loet van der Putten. The Frisian duo Durk-Jan Tjoelker/Ard Klein Nijenhuis took fourth place. They stayed ahead of Frank Rouwehorst/Jorg Rouwenhorst. Leaders in the standings of the National Championship sidecars Hasje Hurkmans/Joep van Leuken had to deal with a defective gearbox during time training and were unable to start.
First heat
Sven Siongers(Bel)/Dagwin Sabbe(Bel) had the best start. Behind them it was Stephan Wijers/Siebe van der Putten followed by Boeve/Sellis and van Dijk/van der Putten. In the first laps Siongers/Sabbe braked to death in a corner and there was no way for Wijers/van de Putten to avoid it and they rode on top. It was Boeve/Sellis who had the lead after the first lap, ahead of van Dijk/van der Putten and Wilfred Vos/Moreno Hoesen. In the second lap, Vos/Hoesen was passed by Koen Grondman/Rick Grondman and Tjoelker/Klein Nijenhuis. In the seventh lap it was René Stalman/Nick Maas who also passed Vos/Hoesen who slowly but surely dropped to eighth place. In the last two laps Grondman/Grondman lost third place to Tjoelker/Nijenhuis and were also overtaken by Stalman/Maas. In the battle for the heat victory, van Dijk/van der Putten put pressure on Boeve/Sellis for first place. However, there was no good chance to overtake. Boeve/Sellis won the heat ahead of van Dijk/van der Putten. Tjoelker/Nijenhuis rode a stable third place. Stalman/Maas passed Grondman/Grondman and crossed the line in fourth place.
Second heat
Van Vaerenberg(Bel)/Roes took the holeshot ahead of Wijers/van de Putten, Rouwenhorst/Rouwenhorst, Björn Ribbers/Celine Peddemors and Siongers/Sabbe. In the first lap, Rouwenhorst/Rouwenhors passed Ribbers/Peddemors and Siongers/Sabbe and came third. Siongers/Sabbe then also passed Ribbers/Peddemors and Leferink/Veldman did the same. Ribbers/Peddemors came to a standstill three quarters of the way through the heat and received a DNF. The battle for heat victory was actually decided in the fourth round. Wijers/van der Putten took over the lead from van Vaerenberg/Roes and quickly took the lead. With this, Wijers/van der Putten showed that the duo should certainly be taken into account, provided they are spared from bad luck. Wijers/van der Putten won the heat with more than twenty seconds ahead of van Vaerenberg/Roes. Rouwenhorst/Rouwenhorst came close, but had to make do with third place. Leferink/Veldman had passed Siongers/Sabbe and were back in the wheel of Rouwenhorst/Rouwenhorst, after which the Belgian combination followed within ten seconds.
In the National Championship standings, Leferink/Veldman is in the lead ahead of Tjoelker/Nijenhuis. With a point difference of 29 between number 1 and 10 in the championship, the battle promises to remain very exciting in the coming matches.
