Van Horebeek: “It wouldn't have happened without my dad!”
What Jeremy Van Horebeek showed during the opening GP in Argentina was rarely seen. After all, riders who lost their factory status and were still able to compete with the top can be counted on one hand. If it depends on 'the Jerre', the exception to the rule will be confirmed even more often this season!
Compatriot Kevin Strijbos preceded Van Horebeek in 2012 when he relaunched his career with KTM UK on the SX-F350. However, Strijbos could use a factory block. The podium of “the Jerre” - his first in the MXGP since Valkenswaard 2017 - came as a total surprise, even with private equipment.
“Not all storms turn your life upside down. Some storms clear the way. Thank you to my father Bruno Van Horebeek for helping me out of the black hole,” Van Horenbeek said on Instagram. “Thank you to my team manager Josse Sallefranque and my mechanic Christophe for this DREAM TEAM!” As speechless as Jeremy himself was afterwards, experts did not know what to say. Because, with the exception of Jeffrey Herlings, almost the entire world top was present in Patagonia. It would be difficult to call Van Horebeek's fantastic performance a coincidence.
With confidence on his side, more competition rhythm and extra time on the bike, the 29-year-old top rider is ready to confirm in Matterley Basin. After all, Van Horebeek was always fit and regular. “It's been a long road. I'm very happy that I can finally put everything from 2018 behind me. I don't have anything more to say about that," Jeremy said on social media.
He reportedly joked to Claudio de Carli on stage in Neuquen that he should have answered his phone. “The Jerre” has clearly recovered his sense of humor!
