Van Grinsven fighting for victory
Mike van Grinsven has also won the second competition for the ONK Quads Masters. At the circuit in Lochem, van Grinsven won both heats after a nice battle with Joe Maessen (photo). Second place went to Ricardo Phoelich, who took advantage of Maessen's bad luck in the first heat. Marc de Vries was the last to take the podium. Koen Jansen and Jan Vlaeymans (Bel) completed the top five.
First heat
It was Maessen who was the fastest at the start. He was followed by Rick Haverdil, Van Grinsven, Phoelich and Jan Hoogendoorn. Van Grinsven needed a few laps to get past Haverdil. Once past him, Maessen and Van Grinsven quickly opened up a gap with the competition. Maessen remained in the lead for a long time, but eventually had to let Van Grinsven pass on the ninth lap. This was also the round that Haverdil slowly fell back. Ultimately it was Phoelich, Jansen, de Vries and Vlaeymans who passed Hoogendoorn and who also passed Haverdil. The last lap turned out to be the bottleneck for Maessen. He had a hole in his block and came to a standstill and was given a DNF. Van Grinsven won the heat ahead of Phoelich, Jansen, de Vries and Vlaeymans.
Second heat
It was now Van Grinsven who was the fastest to leave. Maessen was at his rear wheel, followed by de Vries, Phoelich and Hoogendoorn. Hoogendoorn quickly fell back. It was Haverdil who came fifth, but he was in turn overtaken by Jansen on the seventh lap. Van Grinsven and Maessen had now built up a nice lead over de Vries. De Vries was overtaken and passed by Phoelich in the ninth. Maessen stayed close behind Grinsven for the entire heat and eventually had to settle for second place, five seconds behind. Third place went to Phoelich. He was followed by de Vries and Jansen.
