Stefan Everts has to have his toe amputated
After Stefan Everts' forced hospitalization due to a bone infection last week, bad news now follows. To prevent worse - read the loss of his entire right foot - the ex-top crosser's little toe must be amputated.
Stefan had an almost miraculous escape from death when he suffered a life-threatening malaria attack at the end of last year. The operation on his toe was scheduled for today but was postponed until next Tuesday due to the late delivery of an antibiotic medicine.
“It has become a bit tougher mentally,” admitted 'the Legend' from UZ Leuven on VTM News. “But I'm certainly not going to hang my head. I was doing well. I had gained another five kilos. The condition had also improved a bit, so I'm not going to let this hang. We just keep fighting and working and we look forward positively.”
The MXMag editorial team wishes Stefan and his family a lot of fighting spirit and optimism.
