Rick Elzinga from Cingoli to Matterley Basin!
EMX250 rookie Rick Elzinga (SDM Corse Yamaha) will appear this weekend in Matterley Basin for the first time in a European Championship race with the quarter liter. The pupil of former world champion David Philippaerts first completed a final dress rehearsal in Cingoli.
That match was the first in the Italian championship and that was reflected in the attendance. “It was busy with no fewer than three groups, but I achieved the 12th fastest time in my group, which meant I qualified straight away,” Rick starts.
This did mean that he was allowed to start 34th. Not a very nice spot, but just gas it up! “The starts in both heats were not great, also due to a crash for me. I always had to start at the back. The driving itself went well and I drove consistently, which brought me back from P18 to P13. The team was also very satisfied with that performance,” says Elzinga. The young driver from Zenderen had earned his place in the Superfinal. “To save my back, I deliberately did not start in that Superfinal. This weekend I wanted to be as fresh as possible, so we only limited it to two heats.
In the meantime, the team truck of Rick's new team is already on its way. He himself flies after him on Friday morning. Elzinga is in Great Britain one of the four Dutch people which comes out in the EMX250.
