MCLB/BMB: Van Hoe and Boot triumph in Stekene
All in all, the MCLB and BMB riders could look back on a very successful first double. Here too the wind made itself felt, but the sandy circuit of Stekene was perfectly rideable! With leading roles for Torpjurn Van Hoe, Mark Boot, Tallon Verhelst and Mattis Meersschout, the audience was also presented with animated competitions.
The nervousness of the opening race had a major grip on the large peloton - which started on two rows - in the opening heat. Add to that the gusting wind and you had to pay attention. Big jumps were even dangerous because of the gusts of wind.
Fast starter Torpjurn 'Torpie' Van Hoe clearly did not let the extreme conditions affect him! The experienced Honda pilot was in the lead until the third lap, but BMB guest rider Mark Boot emerged emphatically and was able to benefit from a crash by Van Hoe. Just like in Lommel, Mark was unable to complete. KTM North Europe Racing's Mattis Meersschout had come back very strong after a weak start. He set the fastest lap of the race and left the entire field behind him! Van Hoe recovered and stole second place from Boot in the end.
Boat above all!
Fortunately, the wind had decreased in strength in the afternoon. Boot had his affairs in order during the revival and the Mikkola Silkolene Racing rider danced over the sand as usual! From start to finish Mark was in the lead ahead of Van Hoe, Meersschout and a great Tallon Verhelst.
To his own surprise, 'Turbo Diesel' Maarten Govaert took a final podium finish, while BMB's Tim Louis still recorded a top-5 in the 500cc final tally after two weak starts. Although the surprise of the day perhaps came from the regular Tallon Verhelst, also winner in the Zeeland opener in Axel, who finished second in the half-liters! Unlucky man of the day was probably Jurgen Wybo. Woby misjudged a putt on the straight in the first heat and fell spectacularly headfirst. The MX2 champion hurt his thumb and chose not to take action anymore.
In any case, the first MCLB/BMB double bill leaves you wanting more. Next weekend the MCLB caravan will land in Ertvelde, hopefully without wind this time!
