Max Nagl slowed down by knee problems
Max Nagl achieved some strong results in the preparatory races. The likeable German also finished a strong sixth during the qualifying series of the first MXGP of the season.
However, things went wrong on competition day. On the very fast circuit of Neuquen, Nagl, riding for Sarholz KTM, injured his left knee. When landing a jump, his knee buckled sideways. “It felt like I had dislocated my knee,” says Max Nagl on his Facebook page. The German left the first heat after one lap.
During the medical check-up, the knee was checked and then taped. “Giving up was not an option, so I started in the second heat,” says Max Nagl. In that second moto, the German managed to get through a few laps in and around tenth place, until the knee again made the same sideways movement. After about six laps he had to return to the pit lane. “I have never had problems with my knees in my career, so I have no idea what this is. Hopefully I will have an uneventful return flight and once I arrive in Germany I will immediately consult a specialist together with the Ortema team.” said a very disappointed Max Nagl who had expected much more from the first grand prix on the beautiful course in Neuquen, Argentina.
