Hurkmans/Van Leuken win in Lierop
The National Championship sidecars had an erratic competition due to the difficult conditions. Almost every combination had a moment when they got stuck in the sand of the Hersel forests in Lierop. Haske Hurkmans / Joep van Leuken (photo) were the most consistent combination and took the day's victory. Second place went to Patrick Greup / Maurice Visser. The last place on the podium went to Belgian Davy Maris and his French baking player Alexandre Tourbier, who finished just ahead of Pierre van de Venne / Nick van der Venne. The top five was completed by Stephan Wijers / Siebe van de Putten.
First heat
The holeshot went to Maris / Tourbier. They were followed by Hurkmans / van Leuken, Wijers / van de Putten, Sven Siongers / Dagwin Sabbe and Durk-Jan Tjoelker / Ard Klein Nijenhuis. In the third round the first shift took place in the vanguard. Hurkmans / van Leuken took over the lead and Tjoelker / Nijenhuis ran into problems and fell outside the top five. As a result, it was Frank Rouwenhorst / Jorg Rouwenhorst who reported in fifth place. Maris / Tourbier subsequently fell further to fourth place and Rouwenhorst / Rouwenhorst had to abandon the race. In the seventh lap it was Siongers / Sabbe who got stuck in the heavy sand and fell far back. The big winners of all the problems with other duos were Greup / Visser who made a nice progress to third place. Hurkmans / van Leuken also ran into problems for a while, but the lead they had built up was enormous. Hurkmans / van Leuken won the heat with more than a minute lead. Greup / Visser passed Maris / Tourbier on the last lap to claim second place. Fourth place went to van de Venne / van de Venne after an advance from eleventh place. Wijers / van de Putten ultimately had to be satisfied with fifth place
