The perfect Brexit by Thomas Kjer-Olsen!
Thomas Kjer Olsen (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing) celebrated his perfect 'Brexit' with a victory! The young Dane won the qualifying race in Matterley Basin, controlled both heats and took the red leadership position to Lommel!
After his good second place in the first Grand Prix in Argentina, Thomas Kjer Olsen was determined to continue his good form in England. On Saturday he won the qualifying heat and added two resounding heat victories on Sunday.
In the first moto he got a good start and finished the first lap in second place. Shortly afterwards he took over the lead and controlled the race from that moment on. After a strong race, he took his first victory of the 2019 season.
In the second moto he took the lead from the second lap. Thomas rode a flawless race and also triumphed in the second moto. With this double series victory, he has taken the lead in the standings for the world championship and is sixteen points ahead of the second man.
Jed Beaton made his debut in England on the Husqvarna FC250 and managed to finish in a respectable tenth place. Beaton finished ninth in the first moto and finished the second moto in thirteenth place.
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing will be at the start of the Dutch Grand Prix in Valkenswaard next weekend.
Thomas Kjer Olsen: “It's great that I won both heats here. My weekend was very good. I won the qualifying heat and added two heat victories on Sunday. I can't ask for more. It's been a long time since I won a race and that's why I'm glad I did it on such a beautiful course like this. Matterley Basin has always been a track I enjoy riding. I did my best this weekend to get as many points as possible for the championship. I felt very comfortable all weekend and my best moto was the second because the track was very tough then. I have a lot of confidence in my bike and everything within the team feels perfect. It's good to pay them back with this win. I also managed to get the red plate for the first time in my life. The aim now is to maintain this and continue to work hard in the coming matches.”
Jed Beaton: “I had a very good weekend in Matterley Basin. It was my first Grand Prix in months. I felt strong on the bike. It felt good to finish in the top ten in the first moto. In the second moto I came close again and finished thirteenth. To finish in the top ten in the daily rankings is very positive for me. There are still many competitions scheduled. I'm happy with where I am now and hopefully I can continue to build from here.”
