Guardagnini wins but De Wolf steals the show!
As the big favorite, Mattia Guadagnini has won the first race of the European 125cc Championship. The Italian was supreme in the first moto, but in the second moto the Husqvarna rider was 'only' fourth. The Estonian Jorgen-Matthias Talviku (2-3) finished second in the daily rankings ahead of Tom Guyon (7-1). Kay de Wolf comes fourth but he steals the show and the hearts of the motocross enthusiasts! The debutant leads the second heat for a long time and crosses the finish line in second. Liam Everts scores points in both heats and Kay Karssemakers does the same. Also a great performance by Dave Kooiker who can take three points to Staphorst!
As the big favorite, Guadagnini immediately takes the lead and never relinquishes it. In the initial phase Guyon is still able to follow along reasonably well, but when he makes a mistake, the Husqvarna rider suffers consequences. Guadagnini wins ahead of Talviku who works his way from fifth to second place in the last three laps. The British Joel Rizzi crosses the finish line in third place ahead of Oliver and De Wolf! Everts immediately scores four points during his debut, the KTM rider manages to pass Karssemakers in the last lap. The rider from Boxtel finished 18th and thus took three points.
To the delight of Kees the Omroeper, De Wolf takes the best start during the second round. The Husqvarna rider drives a great race and manages to hold the lead for more than 25 minutes. Then Guyon takes the lead and the Frenchman wins the second heat. De Wolf crosses the finish line very nicely in second place ahead of Estonian Talviku, who will compete this year for A1M Motorsport, Tanel Leok's team. Guadagnini looks Talviku in the back but he can't get past it. Spaniard Oliver is fifth and Everts is now good for twelfth place. Karssemakers sends his Denicol-lubricated Diga-KTM to fifteenth place and 13-year-old Kooiker crosses the finish line in eighteenth.
The championship continues next week in Arco di Trento with an Italian as leader in the standings.
