Glenn Coldenhoff fights through the pain!
After a steady performance in the MXGP qualifying race, home rider Glenn Coldenhoff (Standing Construct KTM) finished ninth today. Due to a heavy fall during training in Lommel in mid-December, 'The Hoff' was forced to make peace with minimal preparation. Glenn won the first Grand Prix in Argentina, but the blood form at the end of last year will still take time...
In the standings, the 28-year-old top rider is in 13th place. Since the first GP in Neuquen, Coldenhoff has continued to improve, although the situation is still far from optimal. “To be honest, I don't feel very fit,” 'The Hoff' explained tonight. For Argentina I only had 2 weeks to prepare, normally it takes two months. Including the preparation races for that first GP. Both Argentina and Matterley Basin were therefore tough... But I was surprised by the good result in England. Especially because I didn't feel very good at all the week before. In that respect, that eighth place in Matterley Basin was worth a podium! Pain-free driving is not an option for the time being. I still have a lot of problems with my back and ribs. I often still have a headache at night. I simply cannot help but conclude that a full recovery takes a long time. It's getting better, but very slowly. I have to live with that, although it does make these first matches extra difficult.”
Coldenhoff is known as a driver with a lot of character and a driver who can rise above himself in front of his own audience. “Driving home is always nice! I am proud to be Dutch, and it is always a pleasure to ride here. Especially because the organization is excellent. It's going to be a beautiful day tomorrow anyway, I'm really looking forward to it!” Due to the absence of Jeffrey Herlings, Coldenhoff is the Dutch spearhead in the MXGP.
