Gerrit Wolsink in Andere Tijden Sport, Sunday March 31
On the day of the Valkenswaard GP, Andere Tijden Sport broadcasts a new episode about one of the Netherlands' most famous motocross riders, Gerrit Wolsink. The sports history program of NOS and NTR, presented by Tom Egbers, then delve into the lost 500cc World Championship of 1976.
Wolsink, nicknamed the Flying Dentist, is still furious about the events during the last GP. It took place in Ettelbruck, then the location of the final of the 500cc World Championship. The title ultimately went to Roger De Coster, but Wolsink mentions a conspiracy between the Belgians. In the GP of Luxembourg, De Coster retired early in the first series with a defective front fork. KTM rider Jaak Vanvelthoven has always been fast in Ettelbruck and won both series ahead of the unfortunate Wolsink. The world title was already gone after the first series, so the revival was only a formality. Soon the well-known rumors started circulating that “something more was going on”. Andere Tijden Sport responds to this and made recordings about this event.
It will be broadcast on NPO1 on Sunday, March 31 around 23 p.m. The recordings were made on the Markelo circuit. You can read about how the 1976 World Championship went in an earlier article published article with our colleagues at MXvintage.
