Cairoli wins MXGP V'waard! Belgians also score highly!
The third round of the world championship was contested this weekend in Valkenswaard, Netherlands. The nine-time Italian world champion Antonio Cairoli once again showed his class and managed to win both heats despite his shoulder injury!
In the first heat the Italian had to tolerate the British Standing Construct pilot Max Anstie in front of him for half a race. However, he made a crucial mistake, which meant he would ultimately only finish sixteenth. That would worry Antonio Cairoli! The Italian, who said he suffered a lot from his shoulder in the first moto, controlled the race from that moment on to win the race with a minimal lead ahead of the Belgian Clément Desalle and Gautier Paulin. Jeremy Van Horebeek finished strongly in fifth, behind Arminas Jasikonis and ahead of Julien Lieber. Tim Gajser, in turn, finished in seventh place after suffering a major blow during the race.
The second heat was again a success for Tony Cairoli. This time it went a little easier than in the previous heat. No Max Anstie to resist, for example! The Sicilian now took the holeshot and was able to control the match from start to finish. Behind him, it seemed at times that Tim Gajser could increase the pressure, but this pressure was always answered, meaning that the Slovenian could not get further than his second place. In third place we found Jeremy Van Horebeek who again completed a very strong Grand Prix, in this second round he stayed ahead of Arminas Jasikonis. This Lithuanian didn't start too well, but came into the picture several times with some beautiful overtaking actions! This is also the case when he referred Clément Desalle to fifth place! After the first heat, Julien Lieber finished in the top ten again in the second heat with a seventh place.
With these results it was of course logical that Antonio Cairoli (50 pts) won the Grand Prix of Valkenswaard! This goes to Clément Desalle (38 pts) and Tim Gajser (36 pts). Jeremy Van Horebeek finished with as many points as Tim Gajser finished fourth ahead of Arminas Jasikonis and Julien Lieber who scored 29 points.
What about the Dutch?!
In the first heat, Brian Bogers was able to crown himself the best Dutchman in the race for the first time this season, with a twelfth place. Unfortunately, this positive story did not continue in the second heat. The HRC Honda pilot finished thirty-first in the second round, three laps behind the winner Antonio Cairoli. The opposite scenario applied to Glenn Coldenhoff, the Standing Construct pilot had a poorer first heat with a seventeenth place, but was able to end the weekend on a positive note with a tenth place! Glenn Coldenhoff finished twelfth in the Grand Prix result, Brian Bogers nineteenth.
Unfortunately, the other Dutch people did not score any points. Lars van Berkel scored thirty-first and twenty-third places in the heats. Sven Van der Mierden in turn scored a twenty-first and twenty-fourth place. Micha Boy de Waal finished twenty-seventh and thirty-second in the MXGP series.
