Jeffrey Herlings injury update!
As expected, Jeffrey Herlings will not be there this weekend in Argentina. The MXGP world champion suffered a fracture to his right foot at the end of January. The Red Bull KTM rider must undergo another check-up on March 11. Yet there is also positive news…
Herlings has to miss the first race of the championship over 19 rounds. That is anything but a surprise given the complex surgery that 'The Bullit' underwent after his fall during training in Spain. The 24-year-old superstar will also be fitted with a new, lighter support during the check-up on March 11, instead of the full cast he currently wears.
Last year Jeffrey started the season spectacularly with a resounding victory in Patagonia. It was his first of a total of 17 GP victories.
Jeffrey Herlings: “I can't really feel much in my foot because of the cast. But the (recovery) seems to be going well after the operation. I'm looking forward to having some pins removed in a few weeks when I change casts. It's a shame to miss Argentina. I think it was one of the best races of the season last year! It is also one of my favorite courses: wide, fast and sandy. It's a shame we won't be there, but it is what it is. “
Joel Smets (KTM Motocross Sports Director): “Jeffrey's injury is not as 'simple' as a collarbone or other part of the body. It is actually quite difficult and it is something that we have to monitor closely, both in terms of recovery and rehabilitation. It is clear that the foot of a motocross rider has a hard time due to the many jumps and bumps. So we are being cautious, hopefully in the coming weeks we will have a better idea of how his recovery is going. Of course we will miss him in Argentina, but with Tony, Jorge and Tom, the rest of the Red Bull KTM is still ready to achieve top results. “
