Strong catch-up races from Jago Geerts
Monster Energy Kemea Yamaha MX2 Team rider Jago Geerts showed up strong in Mantova. He finished fourth in the MX2 series and eighth in the Elite series. The Belgian teenager always achieved this after a good catch-up race.
The third race of the Internationali d'Italia in Mantova was initially not on the program of the Monster Energy Kemea Yamaha MX2 Team. But in the middle of last week the team decided to send Jago Geerts to Italy for additional testing, so he could also participate in the race in Mantova. Both the test work and the competition were a stroke of luck. “We were able to try out some new things and have taken another big step forward as far as the engine is concerned,” Geerts is satisfied with the test work.
The Belgian was also pleased with his two series. “I was doing quite well in the MX2 series, but then I switched gears too late, which meant I lost some places. I had to fight back from outside the top 10. And that was difficult at first because I was suffering from pumped arms again and couldn't find my rhythm. Gradually I found my way and made it back to the third wheel. So not bad.”
In the Elite series, together with the best MXGP riders, Geerts had to tackle an even tougher catch-up race. “The guy next to me left too early, which also caused me to react too quickly and lose my balance. I had to be the last to start overtaking. Unlike in the first series, my arms didn't bother me and I immediately got the right speed. This way I was able to come back from 40th to eighth place, as the third MX2 rider. A great result.”
The Monster Energy Kemea Yamaha MX2 Team has two more preparation races (February 17 Hawkstone Park, February 24 Lacapelle) on the program to be completely ready for the World Championship. This will start on March 3 in Neuquen, Argentina.
