Olsen and Beaton talk about their Hawkstone Park
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing's Thomas Kjer Olsen and Jed Beaton have started the season. The international competition in the British Hawkstone Park ensured that both drivers could gain a lot of rhythm in the run-up to the first Grand Prix in Argentina.
After months of preparation, Thomas Kjer Olsen started his season with a fifth place in the daily rankings. He finished fifth and seventh in the heats, but went even further in the super final by crossing the finish line in an impressive fourth place, making him the highest classified MX2 rider.
Jed Beaton made his debut on the Husqvarna at Hawkstone Park. In the highly competitive MX2 class he managed to finish twelfth. In the coming week, the Australian will travel to France to participate in the international competition in Lacapelle Marival next weekend.
Commentary Thomas Kjer Olsen: “It was a long winter in which we trained a lot and it felt good to finally compete in a race. My speed is good at the moment and this is very positive for the world championship that is getting closer. I was able to ride two good heats here and I finished fifth in the overall classification. In the super final I set a high pace and managed to finish fourth, making me the best classified MX2 rider. I feel I am where I need to be and I will continue to work hard to be 100 percent ready in Argentina.
Commentary Jed Beaton: “This was my first race after eight months and it felt good to be behind the starting gate again. I've had some good moments but I need more time to show what I'm capable of. I made a few small mistakes and I also fell in the first moto. I was able to maintain my pace throughout the day. The season has just started and I have a good feeling on the bike. We will continue to build from here and I look forward to the competitions to come.”
Kay de Wolf rode his very first race in the 125cc class in Hawkstone Park and managed to win. In the first moto he quickly reached second place after a reasonable start, but due to a small crash he lost valuable time. The Wolf quickly jumped back on his Husqvarna and started chasing the leader. He struck with three laps to go and managed to win the race. In the second moto he started the race as the leader and this made it a lot easier. The rider from Eersel completed a controlled heat and crossed the finish line as the winner.
Next weekend Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing will start in the international competition in Lacapelle Marival.
